What I learned about leaf parts and function: •Leaves com in all different shapes and sizes •Leaves have blades •Leaves have veins •Veins support the blade •Veins have xylem and phloem in them •The middle vein is called the midrib •Leaves have stems •Stems support the leaf •Stems transport water and food through the plant •Leaves have stomata on the underside of the leaf •Stomata allow gasses to enter and exit the leaf when they are open •Stomata open and close with the help of guard cells •Leaves are in charge of photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration •Photosynthesis is a process involving light energy from the sun, chlorophyll, water and gasses like oxygen and carbon dioxide •Photosynthesis is how a plant makes food from the sun •Respiration is the process in which oxygen is absorbed by a leaf and turned into energy to help the pant grow •Transpiration is when water vapor exits the plant through it’s leaves when it is hot outside
